Practical Training - 2010 revision

 

Huntingdon Training Centre

In addition to the correspondence and on-line training courses, LEEA offers both INTENSIVE PRACTICAL courses and SPECIALIST MODULES which are held at the Training Centre in Huntingdon.  Certain intensive and specialist courses are offered at the client’s premises provided that essential resources can be made readily available for training purposes.

Intensive (Practical) Diploma

 

(IP1)      Part 1 Entry Examination (2 days)

A 2 day course, dealing with the basic knowledge required for the Part 1 Entry Examination.  At the end of the course, delegates will sit the Part 1 Entry Examination.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Part 1 Certificate.  This course does not include practical workshop sessions although a variety of equipment will be demonstrated for familiarisation purposes.

This foundation course does not offer a LEEA qualification for inspection or examination of lifting equipment but must be completed before a delegate can undertake the Diploma or Specialist Module courses.

(IP2)      Lifting Gear General (5 days) Diploma

              (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

(IP3)      Lifting Machines Manual (5 days) Diploma 

              (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma.  Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

(IP4)      Overhead Travelling Cranes (5 days) Diploma

               (TEAM Card qualifier)

               (Available from September 2012)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma.  Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focussed on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.

(IP5)      Lifting Machines Power (5 days) Diploma

               (TEAM Card qualifier)

               (Available from April 2011)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma.  Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focussed on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.

(IP6)      Runways & Light Crane Structures (5 days) Diploma

               (TEAM Card qualifier)

               (Available from April 2012)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma.  Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focussed on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.

Delegates that successfully complete IP courses 2-6 and pass the final examination will be awarded the LEEA Diploma for the specialist subject.

Practical Certificate Courses

 

(SM1)    Power Lifting Machines – Familiarisation (1 day)

               (Available from April 2010)

This 1 day course covers the general familiarisation with pneumatic hoists, electrical wire rope and chain hoists.  A combination of classroom and practical workshops will be included in the programme.  (Note: this course focuses on basic operating machineries and safety issues.  It does not deal with electrical theory.)

(SM2)    Lifting Machines Power (2 days) – General Maintenance

               (Available from September 2010)

This 2 day course covers the inspection and maintenance electric wire rope hoists.  A combination of classroom and practical workshops covering equipment inspections and Maintenance procedures will be included.  The programme starts with the basics and progresses to the complete disassembly, re-assembly and troubleshooting of these hoists.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

(SM3)    Electrical – Basic Hoist Controls (4 days)

               (Available from April 2011)

This 4 day course is for mechanically biased technicians that wish to develop basic electrical knowledge and control skills, particularly for typical hoist/overhead crane minor electrical faults.  The course will cover basic electrical theory with an overview of typical hoist control components.  Delegates will follow the practical elements of building a simple control panel for controlling a motor using a pendant box.  Delegates will gain a general understanding of control and power circuits for simple lifting machines.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

(SM4)    Overhead Crane Maintenance (4 days)

               (Available from September 2011)

This 4 day course will cover the standard maintenance procedures that would be carried out on a typical electric overhead travelling crane.  Delegates will participate in structural, mechanical and electrical maintenance/inspections.  Brake assemblies and associated checks/adjustments will form part of the course.  Theoretical elements of the course will cover crane manufacturing techniques, fault identification and analysis.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

(SM5)    Gantries – Line & Level Surveys (2 days)

               (Available from September 2011)

This 2 day course will cover both theory, practical and reporting of a line/level survey for overhead crane gantries.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

(SM6)    Hand Chain Blocks & Lever Hoists (2 days)

This 2 day course will include both theory and practical elements covering both hoist types.  Delegates will participate in the strip-down, identification/inspection of components and rebuild of both types of hoist.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

(SM7)    Chain, Wire Rope & Textile Slings (1 day)

This 1 day course will cover all elements of examining different types of common slings and will include shackles and eyebolts.  Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.

BSP         Bespoke Courses

We will be pleased to consider any requests for special courses to suit a member's particular needs.  Also if any member wishes to book all places on a course exclusively for their employees, the content can be varied to suit their requirements.
